Die Kampfszenen und dabei insbesondere die Schwertkampf-Szenen in den beiden Kill Bill Filmen gelten als legendär und voller spannender Action. Die beiden Filme zeichnet aus, dass sie sowohl japanische als auch chinesische Kampfstile darstellen.
Diese treffen schließlich auf die amerikanische Lebenskultur, was insgesamt einen interessanten Mix bildet und für Abwechslung sorgt. Die Darstellung der unterschiedlichen Kulturen ist dem Regisseur und Drehbuchautor Quentin Tarantino bemerkenswert gut gelungen.

Tetsuro Shimaguchi - The Japanese sword fighting master
Tetsuro Shimaguchi ist einer von einer Hand voll Schwertkampf-Choreographen weltweit und gilt gemeinhin auch als einer der besten. Er ist für die Darstellung des letzen Kampfes in Kill Bill Vol.1 zuständig gewesen. Dabei trainierte er aber nicht nur Uma Thurman und Lucy Lui im japanischen Schwertkampf, sondern spielte auch selber die Rolle des „Miki“, nachdem er Quentin Tarrantino am Set von seiner schauspielerischen Leistung überzeugen konnte.
Laut eigener Aussage unterscheidet sich die von ihm verwendete Schwertkampftechnik von den herkömmlichen Choreographien darin, dass er mit dem Schwert tatsächlich, wenn auch abgeschwächt, den Gegner berührt. Dadurch erscheinen seine Darstellungen tatsächlich sehr realistisch.
Seit seiner Rolle in Kill Bill, hat es sich Shimaguchis zur Mission gemacht, die Samurai-Kultur zu verbreiten. Aus diesem Grund gründete er im Jahr 2012 die Performance-Gruppe Sword Master Kamui. With this group, he demonstrates a mixture of classic and modern sword fighting techniques to the audience.

Sonny Chiba - Hattori Hanzo and choreographer
Ähnlich wie Tetsuro Shimaguchi hat Sonny Chiba zwei Aufgabenfelder für den Film Kill Bill Vol.1. Zum einen verkörpert er den Schwertschmied Hattori Hanzo. Zum anderen war er auch als Kenjutsu Choreograph für die anderen Schauspieler am Set tätig.
Eine interessante Hintergrundinformation ist, dass der Schauspieler Sonny Chiba auch im echten Leben Schwerter fertigte.
Many are bothered by the fact that the real person Hattori Hanzo eigentlich ein Samurai und Ninja, jedoch kein Schwertschmied war und der Name des Samurai für die Filmrolle missbraucht worden sei.

Yuen Woo-Ping – Der chinesische Martial-Arts-Choreograf
Yuen Woo Ping is probably the best-known and most famous Chinese martial arts film choreographer of all. He became famous for organising the choreography in the blockbuster Matrix with Keanu Reeves, among other things.
In Kill Bill, he was responsible for the Chinese martial arts. In combination with the Japanese techniques of Tetsuro Shimaguchi and Sonny Chiba, this creates unique scenes in the film.
Kill Bill Sword Fight: Our conclusion
The main aim of the fight scenes in the film is of course to entertain the audience, which is why the protagonists don't behave quite like they would in a real fight. However, the scenes were designed by real experts.
