Definition of the term: Fuchi
The grip ferrule forms the end of the grip towards the tsuba.
Fuchi are usually made of metal. This element offers scope for individual design and is therefore often elaborately decorated. The two "end pieces" of the handle (fuchi and kashira) often have a matching design. As a set, they are called fuchigashira.
The fuchi forms a ring around the end of the body of the sword hilt and stabilises both sides of the wooden handle.
