Definition of Kashira
The end cap on the handle of the sword. This element offers scope for individual design and is therefore often elaborately decorated. The two "end pieces" of the hilt (fuchi and kashira) often have a matching design. As a set, they are called fuchigashira.
Fuchigashira form a ring around the ends of the body of the sword hilt and stabilise both sides of the wooden handle.
Kashira are usually made of metal.
