Tadayoshi of the ninth generation was born in 1832 and died in 1880 at the age of just 49. He lived in the era of the historic Meiji sword ban, which also forced him to give up his blacksmithing at an early age. Works by him are therefore comparatively rare.<\/p>\n
The forging name Tadayoshi lasted for almost 300 years and the swords were very popular throughout the Edo period. The Tadayoshi blacksmiths passed on the secrets and tricks of Hizen blacksmithing from generation to generation and were known for forging swords that were particularly sharp.<\/p>\n

The sword is in excellent condition. The jigane is a konuka hada with well-packed ko-itame and jinie, as is often seen on Hizen-style katanas, giving the hada a warm feel. Hamon is an elegant suguha with a style reminiscent of Yamashiro-den.<\/p>\n
The offer includes two mounts. A simple Shirasaya mount and a very nice Uchigatana mount.<\/p>\n
The metal fittings are all skilfully crafted and further enhance the work of the ninth generation Tadayoshi. The tsukaito is made of beige-coloured silk in the jabara maki style.<\/p>\n
The NBTHK has ascribed Tokubetsu status to this sword and issued a certificate to confirm this.<\/p>\n
