The Maple Katana is a particularly high-quality sword. The blade is hand-polished with a hamon blend of suguha and flat midare.<\/p>\n
The centrepiece of MAS swords is the Japanese blade made from L6 high-performance steel. This is then finished in South Korea and assembled with the other components to form a complete sword. The result is a sword of the highest quality at an unrivalled price.<\/p>\n
L6 is a modern industrial steel with the best properties: it is light yet stable, hard but not brittle and hardly bends at all.
These are all properties that one would wish for in a sword, but which other types of steel do not offer in this combination.<\/p>\n
L6 is difficult to process and this is precisely where MAS' special skills lie. Because heat treatment resulting in a usable, differential-hardened blade has so far only been achieved by the well-known master blacksmith Howard Clark and MAS.<\/p>\n
The other components of the MAS swords are naturally also of the highest quality. The focus is on the cutting ability of the blades.<\/p>\n
This sword also has an unusual scabbard (saya) with integrated hemp fibres and a brown kashu lacquer finish.<\/p>\n
