Definition of terms<\/h3>\n

Tsuka Maki (or Tsukamaki) is the name given to the way in which the Grip tape (Tsuka Ito)<\/a>\u00a0is bound.
\nTying the strap is a fine art that requires a lot of patience and skill.
\nThere are many ways to tie the grip tape. Here we present two types that are used very frequently:<\/p>\n

Hineri Maki<\/h4>\n

This is probably the most common type of grip wrapping. In this case, the grip band crosses on each side of the sword hilt and is twisted when it overlaps. This results in a diamond-shaped pattern on the hilt.<\/p>\n

Katate Maki<\/h4>\n

Is known today under the term \"battle wrap\". There is no direct link between war and this type of binding, but this term has become established.
\nThis winding has the typical diamond pattern at the ends of the handle. However, there is an area in the centre of the handle where the band does not cross.<\/p>\n
