Product description:
Set for repairing the scabbard (saya) of a samurai sword.
It is a normal phenomenon that over time the opening (sayaguchi) of the scabbard of a samurai sword loses its grip and the sword sits too loosely.
As the sword can then simply fall out of the scabbard, the opening should be repaired.
The set includes:
1 set of Toshiro Swords wooden discs:
These wafer-thin plates are glued into the opening of the scabbard to compensate for the missing material.
The wood has sufficient hardness to hold the sword, but is also soft enough not to scratch the blade ferrule (habaki). It is less than 1 mm thick, so there is little risk of the opening being too narrow after gluing.
If the scabbard is too tight after gluing, the glued-in plate can be carefully removed with a file until the desired accuracy of fit is achieved.
Includes two small plates, each measuring approx. 8 x 3.5 cm.
One tube of UHU Express:
The express glue sets within minutes and is transparent after drying. It is quick to work with and any residue is barely visible. The 20 g contained is sufficient for numerous repair processes.
Diamond file:
A small file (14 cm long) that is so hard that it removes wood effortlessly. Its surface is finely textured so that not too much material is lost. The file can be used to straighten the inside of the scabbard and remove old residue before the plates are glued in. After gluing, however, you can also carefully remove some of the plate if the sword is too tight.
