Product description:
Perfect samurai sword with Soshu Kitae blade made of 12-fold folded steel.

Soshu-Kitae blade, which means that steel grades of different hardness were actually used for the forging process and not one and the same grade, as you often see on the internet.
Soshu-Kitae is one of the most complicated blade constructions and is considered to be particularly high-quality work.

The core of this sword has a hardness of 40-42 HRC. The sides, back and cutting edge of the blade have a hardness of 58-60 HRC. The layers between the core and side have a hardness of 50-52 HRC. The steel has been folded 12 times and the blade has been clay-hardened. The Hamon is of course genuine.

Otherwise, only the highest quality materials were used for this sword, such as solid wood for the saya. All fittings are made of metal.

The sword is of course suitable for cutting tests.

Information on clay curing

Clay hardening is a process for the differential hardening of a blade and the most common method for hardening blade steel. An unhardened blade is coated with a mixture of clay, water, charcoal ash and finely ground whetstone. The cutting edge area of the sword is coated very thinly with this clay mixture, while the rest of the blade is coated thickly. If certain patterns are desired, fine cross lines are also applied.

While the clay mixture is still being applied, the blade is heated again until it has reached a temperature of around 800ºC to 900ºC. It is then cooled abruptly. It is then cooled down abruptly. Due to the fact that the clay coating is applied more thinly on the cutting side, this area cools down faster than the rest of the blade. The rapid cooling changes the structure of the previously heated metal. At the same time, the cutting edge becomes harder than the rest of the blade. Visually, this has the effect of forming a genuine hamon on the blade, which is further emphasised during the subsequent processes.
