Nanban Tetsu is the steel that merchants from Portugal and the Netherlands brought to Japan. Due to the different base material and processing methods, Nanban Tetsu was considered to be particularly pure and of high quality.
The basic material for the sword therefore comes from Europe and it may now find its way back to Europe.
Due to its quality and good condition, the sword has been awarded Tokubetsu status (particularly worthy of preservation) by the NBTHK. The certificate is included in the offer.
