With its production in 1876, the sword falls into a particularly interesting period of Japanese history. It was the time between the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the beginning of the Meiji Restoration. The Boshin War began a year later.
The NBTHK classifies the sword as "Hozon", i.e. worthy of preservation. The corresponding certificate is part of the offer.
The sword is generally in good condition. However, it has a 2mm wide scratch on the shinogiji, approx. 12cm from the habakimoto on the sashiura side. To see on the pictures.
The blade is mounted in full koshirae, dating from the same period as the blade. The grip winding is made of silk in tsumamimaki and lacquered over. The scabbard is lacquered in Tamenuri style.
This sword is currently still in Japan. We will take care of the import process if you decide to buy it.
