As usual, the delivery was made in neutral packaging, the postman only needs your identity card and a personal signature.
The sword comes in a decorative Toshiro box, additionally protected by polystyrene parts and a soft fabric cover. A small care set is included in the scope of delivery. It is best to order a complete care set at the same time.
It looks great and is well made. The colour is a little more subtle (darker) than in the photos, but very classy. On my sword stand (piano lacquer), a real eye-catcher - like a modern weapon.
It sits well in the hand and is easy to wield. It passed the paper test (sharpness) in song condition, as did all my Shogun and Toshiro swords.
In my experience, the sharpness can be increased somewhat by cleaning and honing with a special leather belt. Please do not sharpen it yourself, I have already lost a blade. Maintenance and polishing is sufficient in most cases. Order some sword powder, you can also sprinkle some on the honing belt.
The real quality of this sword
can only be felt with harder targets. If it doesn't go through, it's most likely due to your technique. No problem, the spring steel forgives a lot (not everything) and is the right thing to learn and practise.
Have fun unpacking it. It's more like a weapon - no matter what your purchase motives are.

Great sword! Unfortunately it was out of stock for a while, but the notification worked like a charm. Ordered immediately, delivered in a flash!
Sword is very high quality, super sharp - as Wolfgang already wrote, paper test no problem (takes some getting used to compared to the Japanese kitchen knives I usually use 😉)
Now it's just back - in my opinion it's PRICE-worthy in the best sense of the word
It is certainly also good as a katana. But I really like the handiness of the wakizashi - it feels incredibly good in the hand!

The Aoi Domoe Wakizashi is my first sword from Toshiro, and I have to say that you get a lot for your money here.
Of course, for a price at the lower end of the scale of what you would pay for a high-quality pocket knife today, you don't get a sword "with all the trimmings" such as differential hardening of the blade, high-gloss polish, real silk for the windings or rich decorations on the tsuba and saya - but, and this is surprising enough, you get a really good functional sword at an unbelievable price, which is nevertheless also visually quite pleasing.
The wakizashi is dead straight, neatly finished all round, the handle winding is very tight, nothing wobbles or slips, everything feels very high quality. I only had to rework the mekugi a little, as there were one or two burrs that were a little uncomfortable on the hand during use, but this was easily fixed in a few minutes.
I can't yet say much about the quality of the steel or its heat treatment, but the sharpness of the blade ex works is very good, soft targets are at best breakfast opponents for the sword and it is quite manoeuvrable and well balanced despite its rather high weight. The matt lacquer finish of the saya is also much more practical in practice than the usual piano lacquer, as you are not constantly polishing away the finger tappers.
My conclusion: At half the price of what you pay today for comparable wakizashi from overseas, this sword is a real bargain that doesn't have to hide from the competition in terms of function or appearance!

I think the sword is very great and good value for money, but there is a fairly large scratch mark on the blade which doesn't bother me too much and is probably an isolated incident, but it should be mentioned. The blade is very sharp and the overall appearance of the sword is very elegant.
