The blade has a special history. The signature on the Ura side of the blade tang means: "In March 1916, this sword was forged before God on the grounds of Nogijinja Shrine in the Momoyama region of Kyoto"
The Nogi Shrine was opened in 1916. The sword was probably forged and consecrated for this occasion. From a Western perspective, this may only be a small detail, but for a Japanese sword it is of particular significance.
The blade comes with two mounts. Shirasaya with sayagaki by Sato Kanzan and Uchigatana Koshirae with elaborate design.
The tsuba is signed "Efu Ju Akao Yoshitsugu". Akao Yoshitsugu worked in the Edo period and is known for his high-quality work.
Taking into account the condition, origin and historical background, the NBTHK granted Tokubetsu status to this beautiful sword and issued the corresponding certificate.
This sword is currently still in Japan. We will take care of the import process if you decide to buy it.
