Product description:
Solid sword with 1095 carbon steel blade and painted saya with paulownia motifs
The centrepiece is the blade made of high-quality 1095 carbon steel and clay hardening. The clay hardening gives the blade a real hamon and a hardness of approx. 62 HRC on the cutting edge. The blade is very sharp and the sword is also suitable for harder cutting targets such as tatami mats.
The visual highlight of this sword is the hand-painted scabbard with paulownia motifs. This tree and its wood (also known as Kiri wood) have a strong connection to the samurai and their history.
The wooden components of samurai swords are usually made from this wood.
The material is so important to the samurai that Toyotomi Hideyoshi chose it as part of the Toyotomi family's mon. It is also depicted on the seal of the Japanese government.
