KATANA MARTIAL ARTS VS. KATANA MARTIAL ARTS
As it is important to many people to emphasise a clear distinction between martial arts and martial arts, we would like to briefly explain the difference between Japanese martial arts and martial arts in our opinion.
The generic term for Japanese martial arts is Budō. The term includes "do", Japanese for "way", which also appears in the well-known sword fighting styles of kendo or iaido. Budō is therefore very much about self-discipline and the path that the athlete takes to achieve a better self. The path is the goal. This Buddhist philosophy is evident in the rituals associated with martial arts, such as bowing to the opponent.
Martial arts, on the other hand, are usually competition-driven. It is primarily about achieving a specific goal, such as defeating an opponent. The way to get there is therefore no longer the actual goal.
